Britone is interested in communities and technology.
Britone is a fellow at Mozilla Foundation on the Kiswahili Common Voice team. He is focused on building datasets for the Kiswahili language that will be made publicly available to enable voice innovation and research.
Currently serving as advisor to a non-profit called Pwani Teknowgalz, pwaniteknowgalz.org whose mission is to equip girls and young women in marginalised communities in Kenya with employable practical skills in STEM with the aim of empowering them economically to be sustainable and contribute to the digital economy.
Britone has served as the Director of Technology at Swahilipot Hub, a technology and arts community in Mombasa. He worked on numerous projects and programs within Swahilipot Hub. He is most proud of getting Swahilipot Hub to join Afrilabs, the network of hubs across Africa. While serving as the Director of Technology he worked on bridging the gap between academia and industry by attracting co-operates like Safaricom PLC, Africa’s Talking, CyberSpeak LC, iPay and many other technology companies.
He has spent a lot of time on getting support for startups and businesses in Mombasa. Britone has spent a lot of time advising and helping a number of youth in Mombasa to turn their ideas and projects into startups. He has worked on getting partnerships that support technology startups through partnerships like the Amazon Web Services Activate program that provides credits worth $5,000 to access cloud computing services. Britone led the Pwani Innovation Week 2018 startups pitching competition that saw 30 startups apply and pitch infront of judges. Judges were drawn from incubation hubs and KPMG Kenya. The winning startup received funding of $5,000 and the top three received incubation and training by 1000 Alternatives.
Britone served as the chairman of the computer students society at the Technical University of Mombasa. This is where he developed the passion for building communities. He brought fellow students together to learn different computer technologies and participate in community meetups.
